Alexander Bendahan: Film Producer

Biography

Alexander Bendahan, independent film producer, is a native of San Francisco, California. In the summer of 2010 his documentary short film "Rose Murray: Portrait of a Photographer" had its world premier at the St. Barth's Film Festival-Cinèma Caraïbe , it was selected for the Trinidad Film Festival, then showed at DocLeipzig in Germany and won first place for documentary short at the Rhode Island International Film Festival.  

Currently Bendahan is involved in the development stage with co-producers Cinèma Caraïbe and Production des Ils for a documentary examining the origins, survival and evolution of traditional French music on St. Barthélemy Island.  

Bendahan and his team are also in the development phase for two other documentaries; the first, "Jacques' Kaleidoscope", an in-depth examination of the life, works and philosophy of internationally acclaimed architectural sculptor Jacques Overhoff (80), and the second, detailing the lifetime and adventures of one of Trinidad's most colorful native sons; dancer, poet and philosopher Everest Telfer Jr., aka Jay (81). 

After many years in the fields of music and live concert audio, Alexander returned to complete his studies in modern music composition and computer music synthesis in 2003. He contributed to a number of film projects in the capacity of sound editor, sound designer and music composer. These works include the Stanford University 2002 graduate project "The Radius Our Passion Fills", a computer graphics animated short which was granted the honor of being accepted into the Stanford University Archives in 2003. That year he contributed his services in the same capacities for "Powers of Darkness", a graduate film project at University of California at Berkeley.  

Mr. Bendahan's background includes recording and producing musical groups as well as extensive touring as a performer in the United States and Europe. He holds a degree in music composition, having studied at San Francisco City College, Cal State Hayward and California State University at San Francisco. Alexander worked from 2000-2009 as a Sound Arts instructor at the Ex'pression College for Digital Arts in Emeryville, California and is an active member of the San Francisco Film Society. Upcoming plans include a challenging multi-arts educational effort entitled "The Art Project".
